Capacitor networks
Capacitors in parallel: C = C1 + C2
where C is the capacitance of the combination.
Capacitors in series: 1/C = 1/C1 + 1/C2
where C is the capacitance of the combination.

The charge distribution on capacitors connected in series and in parallel.

Joining two charged capacitors
If two charged capacitors are joined together:
(a) there is no change in the total charge stored by the capacitors
(b) the potential difference across the two capacitors becomes equal
(c) the combined capacitance (C) of the two capacitors is: C = C1 + C2
