Liquid in a U-tube
Imagine a U tube containing a length 2L of liquid (Figure
1).
If the liquid in the U-tube is now displaced slightly and then released it will
oscillate with simple harmonic motion.

The period (T) of the
motion is given by the equation:
Period of oscillation (T) = 2π[L/g]1/2
where L is half the length of the liquid in the U-
tube.
