Electron motion in a metal wire

This animation shows the random motion of electrons in a metal wire when no current flows through the wire. The number of electrons disappearing from the right hand side of the view is equal to the number appearing from the left hand side and so there is no net flow of electrons.

To view the flow of electrons when a current flows please see the animation entitled 'Electric current'.
